Are you thinking of buying insurance online? It’s fast and easy – one click and it’s done. Yet how do you know what you’re really getting? And will it cover you and your family when it matters the most?
Whether we like it or not, Kiwis are increasingly opting for the convenience that the internet and online shopping provides. While convenient, one of the major pitfalls of shopping online is that things aren’t always as they seem. Being disappointed when the shoes you ordered online are a different colour or style to what you were expecting is one thing, but what would happen if you didn’t get the insurance cover you thought you had bought?
If you got ill or the main breadwinner in your family suddenly passed away, not having the right insurance in place could have very serious consequences. So if you’re thinking about buying insurance online, then here are three good questions to ask yourself before you go any further.
What is the actual value of the policy?
One of the main pitfalls of buying insurance online is that the majority of websites are cost driven and choose to focus or compare the “cost” of insurance policies, rather than the “benefits that are covered”.
If you choose to buy insurance online, in most cases you won’t know if you’ve got the right policy until you need to make a claim. Your cover may be inadequate or you might not be covered for things you thought you were due to the right questions not being asked.
Are your needs really covered?
Everyone has their own unique circumstances and needs. When you buy insurance online there are often only a few standard packages you can choose from, which don’t always take your specific needs into account. When it comes to insurance, a one size fits all approach just doesn’t cut it.
And what about customer care?
At Foresight Financial Planning you will only ever need to phone us, regardless of whether there is a change in your details or you need to make a claim. There is no impersonal call centre to deal with and we are always happy to meet face to face and at time to suit you. The internet is a great tool. However, when it comes to making a decision about what insurance is right for you and your family, we recommend that you leave nothing to chance and talk to a professional. It could save you time, money and heartache in the future.
