Now, imagine you are stuck on a waiting list waiting for an operation – you can’t work, you are in pain and you are told you do not meet the criteria for treatment. What is your detour or ‘work around’?

Most medical insurers offer excess levels options from $0 to $10,000. The excess is the amount you pay towards a claim and the higher the excess the lower the premium. You can also alter excesses to suit changing circumstances.
Whilst you might think having a high excess is ridiculous, having to find $10,000 in later life for that heart valve replacement (can cost up to $62,000) or new hip (approx. $30,000) is a lot easier than having to fund all of the cost privately or waiting to be put on the public waiting list for surgery.
